Joy Anderson

Founder, Criterion Institute

As the Founder and President of the think tank Criterion Institute, Dr. Joy Anderson has spent the last two decades helping investors, social change organizations and governments to think differently about finance. She has shaped the field of gender lens investing, pioneered approaches to integrating gender-based violence data into political risk methodologies, and authored numerous influential reports on using finance as a tool for social change. She also hosts The Criterion Institute Podcast, a series of open conversations with other innovative thinkers in finance. In 2021, Criterion received a major commitment from Global Affairs Canada to develop a global system of standards for the field of gender lens investing. Running throughout the institute’s work is a deep understanding of systems change and power, and a commitment to inspire and include those who don’t believe they have a voice or agency in financial systems.
